Canmore Main St: Red Stag

Canmore Main St: Red Stag

In the spring of 2022 we saw a call for artists to submit a statue for consideration for Canmore's Main Street.  We thought our Red Stag would be a pretty cool piece with the stunning backdrop of Bow Valley mountains.  We submitted Michael's statue and won the contest!  Red Stag will be on display from May 17th - Oct 11th.  After that it will come back to the Monkey Wranch and will be available for sale.

Michael's thoughts on his statue: "On my first day of working at Lake Louise Ski Hill I was there at the end of summer and recall vividly seeing a big stag standing on the edge of ridge, with the classic Fall, low-angle sunset behind. Bathed in colors of red, pink and orange he was a sight to behold. I like to think he gave me that little bit of luck that every new person needs and 25-years later I'm still working part-time at the ski hill.

I read up on it and seeing a red stag can be a sign of good luck and prosperity coming your way. A mature stag has endured life's challenges and survived, and has the giant rack to show for it. The color red symbolizes intensity, primal energy and good fortune. To be honest in these crazy last few years I feel like we have all survived a lot and could use a little bit of luck."
